Riverland zone, 1926 to 1931
The Loxton Brown’s Well Football Association was formed in 1926 from a merger of the Brown’s Well and Loxton Line Football Association’s.
In 1929 Paruna were minor premiers and looked to be a big chance to end the run of premierships of the mighty Lock 4 team. Despite losing their first final to Loxton by a solitary behind, Paruna still held premiership favouritism especially when Lock 4 knocked Loxton out of the finals race.
Lock 4 though still a very good side, was not the powerhouse team that had won the 1927 and 1928 flags. 1929 had been a devastating year for farmers with very little rain and the slightest zephyr of wind would raise the dust. Grand final day in Loxton produced a dust storm of biblical proportions, newspapers of the day described it as the worst in history.
Despite these adverse conditions the grand final between Paruna and Lock 4 went ahead with strong northerly winds and visibility cut to less than fifty metres. A number of Paruna footballers including their skipper, Frank Haddrick were unable to get to the game when the Loxton to Paruna road became impassable due to drift sand. Fill in players were arranged but Paruna were still one short and despite the best efforts of those present were defeated by Lock 4.
