Hills zone, 1972 to today

Formation

In 1972 the geographical zone system was replaced with Division I, II, III and IV competitions ranked in order of club strength. In effect, the Division II competition consisted of clubs from the smaller towns and predominantly from the Northern Zone. Gumeracha, Kersbrook, Pleasant Valley, Birdwood, Williamstown and Sedan Cambrai were the inaugural members.

Over the next decade Division II absorbed members of the Division III and IV competitions to increase in size. In recent years there has been a promotion and relegation system in process in conjunction with Division I. Clubs are also permitted to drop to Division II if it is in the best interest of improving their club as Ironbank have done in 2017.
