The Boundary Districts Football Association was formed in 1928 with the founding clubs Lucindale, Frances and Kybybolite. Hynam applied to join in 1930 but were declined because of fears that their boundaries would encroach on that of current member clubs. Frances and Kybybolite left in 1931 to join a newly formed Border Districts association. Hynam and Coonawarra applied to join once more but the association went into a state of limbo when Lucindale announced they would be joining the Southern Ports association. Hynam also received an invitation to join the newly formed Border Districts competition.
Joe Davis of Coonawarra was named as the association best and fairest in 1931. Another Coonawarra player Owen Skinner took out the award in 1932.
Hynam made an application to return in 1932 under the proviso that they were accepted as a combined team with Kybybolite. Applications were received from both Struan and Kybybolite clubs for admission. Only Struan, situated nine miles from Mount Gambier were admitted. Coonawarra dropped out in 1934 and Kybybolite, who were also known as the ‘Cloverlanders’ were readmitted.
