The Mallee Football League was formed in 1994 when clubs from the Lameroo & Districts league (Lameroo, Pinnaroo, Ngallo, Parilla Geranium and Murrayville) merged with the two remaining clubs from the Murray Lands league (Peake & Districts and Karoonda Districts).
In 1993 teams from Murray Lands and Lameroo & District played a four game trial competition between the two leagues to test the viability of a future amalgamation. Each club played four teams from the neighbouring league, two home games and two away games. When the four match trial was complete all ten clubs involved then resumed competition within their own league. East Murray and Perponda found the away traveling was too much and joined other leagues in 1994 while Wynarka and Karoonda merged to form Karoonda Districts.
