Yorke Peninsula zone, 1914 to 1936
The Moonta Junior association was formed in 1914 with the founding clubs Moonta, East Moonta, Cross Roads and Moonta Mines. R H Penrose was elected chairman, W L Booker secretary treasurer and N F Forrest patron.
Moonta Mines was in effect the B team of the Moonta Turks who were playing in the Yorke Peninsula association at the time. With the downturn in mining, clubs were forced to field players as young as thirteen to fill their sides.
Cross Roads left the association in protest during the 1936 season. The Yorke Peninsula association went into recess mid season and the Moonta Junior association gave a number of Turks player’s permission to join East Moonta. This greatly enhanced their chances of winning the premiership but also brought about the demise of the competition.
