The Murray Downs Football Association was formed in 1920 with Tailem Bend, Coomandook, Coonalpyn and Cooke’s Plains as the original clubs. The association became the Lower Murray Football Association in 1923 but went into recess in 1924, possibly due to the domination of Tailem Bend who moved to the Murray Bridge association that year.
When Tailem Bend and Jervois transferred to the River Murray Association in 1931, Tailem Bend formed a second side to continue in Murray Downs. Both Tailem Bend and Jervois fielded B grade teams in Murray Downs in 1933.
In 1934, Tailem Bend decided to withdraw from the River Murray association and formed two new teams to enter the Murray Downs association. The new teams were to be run by the Tailem Bend Football Club and be known as Warriors and Centrals. Centrals would use the old Tailem Bend colours of red and white and the Warriors would wear yellow and black. Ken Lowe was elected captain of the Warriors and Alf Aikman captain of Centrals. Peake applied for membership in 1938 and were accepted but withdrew their application when the association gave them a restricted boundary in which they would lose a number of their best players to Sherlock.
