The Wakefield, Light and Gilbert Football Association was formed in May 1904 embracing clubs from Auburn, Saddleworth, Riverton, Marrabel, Manoora and Watervale. The association was reformed for the 1905 season and in June of that year a combined Wakefield, Light and Gawler team defeated West Torrens 4-5 to 3-1 attracting a crowd of 250 spectators. The previous season a match was played against a West Adelaide team in which the locals were soundly beaten. Tuohy from Riverton kicked 15 goals in a match against Saddleworth in 1904.
The competition lapsed mid season in 1905 when Riverton and Manoora began to play teams from outside the association in search of better competition. Although the Wakefield, Light & Gilbert association only lasted a little more than one season, the member clubs would eventually form the nucleus of the Mid North Football Association.
